Rome Main Streets Alliance

Tuesday, June 18, 2013

On July 23, 2002, the National Trust for Historic Preservation conducted a strategic assessment of Rome’s downtown area.  In this assessment, three Main Street corridors were identified – East Dominick Street, West Dominick Street and James Street. Beginning with former mayor Joseph Griffo, and continuing with our present mayor, James Brown, we are endeavoring to implement four critical elements in revitalizing the downtown area through the Main Streets program committees and the Rome Main Streets Alliance Board, which will oversee the projects and funding of the three corridors, both as a whole unit and independently in each corridor.

Our mission; "To promote, to revitalize and to showcase Rome's downtown main street corridors."

Design: Making our downtown corridors physically attractive to shoppers, investors, and potential business owners.

Promotion: Promoting downtown through publicity, events, and information.

Economic Restructuring: Learning the assets and weaknesses of the areas, making corrections, and encouraging new business (particularly small business).

Organization: Developing critical resources such as labor and funding so as to continue these efforts.

The Alliance Board and Committee representatives are all volunteers from our community, representing business, government, nonprofits, and private citizens.
