According to members of the Alliance Octet, the Center is “the perfect venue for chamber music, as it affords a performance space that is intimate, yet comfortable for both listener and musician. Chamber music is a form of classical music that is composed for a small group of instruments—traditionally a group that could fit in a palace chamber or a large room of a house.” In recent years, there has been a resurgence of chamber music being performed at ‘house concerts,’ and how fitting is it for such a well known Rome house to present this series. “Chamber music is often described as ‘the music of friends,’” according to founding member Colleen O’Neil, “and in fact, it is from that description that Alliance Octet chose its name.”
