The Office of the City Clerk serves as a vital connection between the residents of Rome and their municipal government. As the official custodian of the City Seal, City Charter, and the Rome Code of Ordinances, the City Clerk plays a key role in preserving the legal and historical integrity of the City.
The Clerk’s responsibilities include administering oaths of office for elected officials and individuals appointed to City Boards. Additionally, the City Clerk serves as the Registrar of Vital Statistics for the City of Rome.
As Registrar, the Clerk oversees the accurate recording and maintenance of all birth and death records that occur within the City. In a legislative capacity, the City Clerk serves as Clerk to the Common Council and the Board of Estimate and Contract. Working in coordination with the Office of the Corporation Counsel, the Clerk prepares meeting agendas and maintains official records of proceedings to ensure transparency and accountability in government operations.
Regular Hours of Operation
The City Clerk’s Office is open to the public from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, excluding recognized holidays. To ensure timely processing, please note that all financial transactions conclude at 4:15 p.m. daily, fifteen minutes before our 4:30 p.m. closing. We appreciate your cooperation and planning ahead.
