The Office of the City Clerk serves as a direct link between the residents and their local government. The Clerk is the keeper of the time clock, the official custodian of the City Seal, the City Charter, and Rome’s Code of Ordinances. In addition, the Clerk administers oaths of office for elected officials and individuals appointed to the City Boards.
The Registrar of Vital Statistics Office is responsible for the filing of all births and deaths that occur within the City of Rome. The City Clerk also serves as Clerk to the Common Council and Board of Estimate & Contract. Once legislation is drafted by Corporation Counsel, the Clerk prepares the agendas for the meetings and records the proceedings.
Hours of Operation
The City Clerk’s Office is open to the public from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday, and is closed on Holidays. However, closing procedures make it necessary to stop financial transactions fifteen minutes prior to the posted 4:30 pm closing time. Please plan accordingly.
