The City of Rome is hosting three consecutive information sessions to gather public input on three separate ongoing projects within the Department of Community and Economic Development.
City staff along with Plumley Engineering will be present to discuss a concept design for the redevelopment of the James Street parking garage site into a public off-street parking facility. As part of the Downtown Revitalization Initiative, the new parking facility will replace the existing four-story parking garage and will be focused around tourism and sustainable design.
Additionally, there will be updated plans on display for the Erie Boulevard Downtown Transportation Alternative Project (TAP) Wheels to Heels. Wheels to Heels is focused on the improvement of the segment of Erie Boulevard between South James Street and South George Street, and includes pedestrian, bicycle, and parking upgrades. Attendees will be able to view and provide comment on changes that have been made since the last public involvement session.
The third project that will be on display includes the upgrades that are planned for Veteran’s Park and Gansevoort Park on James Street. After consulting with the Rome Veteran’s Association, the Rome Historical Society, Fort Stanwix National Park, and the public, consultants have created a plan to provide much needed improvements to both parks on James Street.
The public information sessions will be in the form of a drop-in lunch hour and will occur on May 23, 24, and 25, 2023 from 12pm-1pm at City Hall in the atrium on the second floor. Members of the public are invited to drop in at any point from 12pm-1pm during the three days to review the designs for all three projects, provide feedback, and ask questions of the consultants and/or City staff.
