Homeowner Storm Repair Grant Program - NYS Homes & Community Renewal

Low- and moderate-income homeowners in affected regions in Chautauqua, Erie, Essex, Lewis, Madison, Oneida, and Warren Counties can apply for funding to cover the cost of urgent repairs necessary to bring their homes into a safe and habitable condition. To qualify, a homeowner's income must be at or below 100 percent of Area Median Income.

The grant provides up to $50,000 for qualifying emergency repairs to eligible homeowners impacted by the tornadoes and flooding that occurred across New York State in July 2024. Grants will be awarded based on a scope of work approved by local administrators according to program guidelines. The program is run locally through the HomeOwnership Center.

The deadline to apply is Friday, November 8, 2024.

The Rome Victim Recovery Fund

The Rome, New York Emergency Response Fund was established through The Community Foundation of Herkimer and Oneida Counties to directly support recovery efforts in Rome following the damage inflicted on July 16 from the confirmed F2 tornado.

The Rome Victim Recovery Fund

The application process for the Rome Victim Recovery Fund closed on Friday, August 23, 2024.

The Rome Victim Recovery Fund is being distributed through the Rome, NY Emergency Response Fund through the Community Foundation of Herkimer and Oneida Counties.

Rome residents who were impacted by the July 16, 2024 tornado, and do not qualify for government assistance services, will be eligible to receive up to $5,000 to utilize for the following, but not limited to:

  • Insurance deductibles
  • Electrical hook-ups
  • Securing homes
  • Relocation costs
  • Moderate repairs
  • Tree removal
  • Dumpster rentals

State Historic Preservation Office
For homeowners affected by the tornado who also live within the proposed boundary of the State Register of Historic Places as shown in the map below, you may be eligible to qualify for a state historic tax credit equal to 20% of the repair costs from damages. Rome Business Emergency Fund

The application process for the Rome Business Emergency Fund closed on Friday, September 6, 2024.

Rome Area Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the City of Rome and Oneida County is accepting applications for its Rome Business Emergency Fund. The fund will be used to provide financial aid to Rome businesses that have suffered hardships from the F2 confirmed tornado and storm. Funds are granted in amounts up to $5000.
